Sameena is the Founder of Equitable Education. Her career has been devoted to closing the gaps for different groups of pupils, due to her passionate belief in the power of education to transform whole communities. Sameena has a proven track record of making a significant difference to outcomes for pupils. She worked as a PGCE course tutor at Sheffield Hallam University and regularly provided training for BEd and PGCE students at The University of Sheffield. She has considerable experience of working as a cross-phase Teacher Adviser in Sheffield, progressing to Head of Service in North Lincolnshire. Sameena has considerable experience of working extensively with senior colleagues within Local Authorities.
For the past three years, she has worked as a Senior Advisor for Closing the Gaps. In this role, performance for groups of pupils from Foundation Stage, KS2 and GCSE has risen consistently faster than the national average. She has also been a member on the NQT Appeals Panel for the DfE and an Advisory member to a number of national organisations including CILT. The evidence of the impact she has had on individual schools has been regularly acknowledged in Ofsted reports and she has been an accredited Ofsted Inspector since 2003. She is on the editorial board of the highly respected journal Race Equality Teaching.
Sameena is particularly interested in system leadership and school to school collaboration. More recently, Sameena has co-founded #WomenEd with four other colleagues and she regularly takes part in national grassroots conferences.
