Baljit is a founding Director at Indigo Diversity Ltd, an educational management consultancy and the Diverse Educators Network. Since 2011, Baljit has undertaken interim management and consultancy contracts in local authorities and NCTL (DfE). She has extensive knowledge and experience of senior leadership, management, equality and diversity in schools and in the public sector. She has a secondary school teaching background as Head of Humanities in a large secondary Bradford school and also worked in Kirklees local authority. She has held senior roles as Policy Development Officer for Equal Opportunities, Head of Ethnic Minority Achievement & Equalities, Senior Improvement Manager for School Leadership and Management and as a Teaching and Leadership Adviser with NCTL (DfE). Currently she works part time as a Education Recruitment Advisor supporting graduates into initial teacher training.
She has been actively involved in diversifying school leadership in the region and working with the Diversity Steering Group. In her role as Vice Chair of the Diversity Steering Group, Baljit was instrumental in developing a bespoke regional leadership programme for school leaders from ethnic minority backgrounds with funding from the National College. She has facilitated on the National College and NUT’s Equal Access to Promotion Programme and facilitates on the DSG’s Diverse Leaders for Tomorrow programmes.
Baljit is vice chair of governors at Holmfirth High School and Project Manager for the YH Diversity Steering Group and Women Leading in Education Network.
